Frequent Flyer and Loyalty Rewards
Being a smart traveler includes knowing how to leverage reward points to work for you. From airlines, hotels, car rental and credit card companies there are lots of ways to combine rewards and get the best out of traveling and save money. In the My Year of Travel post, talked about how I benefited from frequent flyer and loyalty reward programs. Here are just a few ways to leverage loyalty programs.- Hotel Loyalty Program
- Member rates
- Free in-room Wi-Fi
- Points to redeem free nights or miles with airline partners
- Elite status offer more benefits
- Airline Frequent Flyer Programs
- Earn miles from flights, dining, hotel stays, and car rentals with partners
- Depending on the program, miles can be redeemed for flights, hotel stays, and retail gift cards
- Elite status provides benefits (i.e. preferred boarding. lounges, and upgrades)
- Travel Credit Cards
- Earn points on purchases
- Some allow points transfers to travel partners (i.e. chase rewards)
- Some have priority airport lounge benefits
Lioness Tip #1: Some travel credit cards waive the first year annual fee and after you reached the initial spending requirement you are rewarded with enough points for an international flight. That's exactly what I did for my flight to Cancun.
Lioness Tip #2: Most people don't know that if you don't have enough points with your airlines you can transfer points from your hotel loyalty program or some credit cards rewards if they have a partnership between the two companies.
